Spot the zombies and ghosts! Three exposures at sunset. One aspect of this I liked was the fact you can see the Canada Place sails reflected in the enormous glass windows of the new building.

~ Battle of the Windmill ~ The "Battle of the Windmill" (later converted to a lighthouse) Battle of the Windmill was a battle fought in November 1838 in the aftermath of the Upper Canada Rebellion. Loyalist forces of the Upper Canadian government defeated an invasion attempt by Hunter Patriot insurgents based in the United States. Basically.... Canada kicked a$! (unfortunate that we must still rely on the same canons) 3 standing shots, HDR using Photomatix Pro 3 Beautiful place to visit along the Saint Lawrence (Saint Laurent) River and one of the highlight finds of the day. Thank you everyone for stopping into the Canada - USA image and leaving comments and invites before it even makes it to groups. Much appreciated. Hope everyone is having an outstanding Wednesday and is enjoying the lack of snow in their shots as I am. BIG HELLO from Ottawa, Canada.

The Bahai Temple at Blue Hour View Large on Black at www.thewindypixel.com! "Sometimes you just get lucky": I’ve mentioned before how the light was relatively poor while I was photographing the Baha’i House of Worship in Wilmette. There was no sunrise and I missed the five seconds of great light by being on the wrong side of the building. Despite these setbacks, I came away with a few great images, predominately because the temple is simply stunning. I was taking a few photographs from whatever vantage points weren’t blocked off by a winter’s worth of deep freeze, trying for something specific. Sometimes when you’re trying really hard to do one thing (get a shot of the white stone temple silhouetted against a pitch black sky) you luck out and get something that is quite the opposite, but better than you could have hoped for. A low cloud ceiling, sodium vapor lights, tungsten white-balance, and a rather nasty bit of lens flare coming off the ridiculous front element of the 14mm all intersected to create some very beautiful colors and shapes in the sky behind the temple. This would be an all-time favorite of mine were the foreground to be more interesting. Perhaps I should drop it to black with a little photoshop magic …. :)

Shopping in Wonderland RE-POST Note, 11/21/08: I just got back from a photo contest put on by the local newspaper which is putting together a photobook of Ventura County, a slightly different version of this pic won a "peoples choice" award and is one of two pics that made the book (the other one linked below) anyway it was such an overwhelming experience, there were over 500 photographers & 9,000 images submitted, so to win one of the 25 awards and then sit for a book signing was simply amazing............. Im not bragging but only releasing/sharing my excitement to my good friends on Flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/intherough/2704878084/in/set-721576...

Ir de tapas, Valladolid (Spain) HDR Tapas is the name of a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or warm. In Spain, dinner is usually served between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. (sometimes as late as 12 midnight), leaving significant time between work and dinner. Therefore, Spaniards often go "bar hopping" (Spanish: Ir de tapas) and eat tapas in the time between finishing work and having dinner. Since lunch is usually served between 1 and 3 p.m., another common time for tapas is weekend days around noon as a means of socializing before lunch proper at home (excerpt Wikipedia). HDR from 5 bracketed exposures (0,7EV steps), handheld. --- ARGEGNO Argegno is one of Lario’s most frequented places, as a place to stay as well as to stop in to visit. Actually from here a road travels the Valle dIntelvi (Intelvi Valley), which connects Lake Como with that of Lugano. Argegno is 20 km. from Como, from which can be reached by travelling the statale (state road) Regina, which takes its name from the ancient Roman via Regia that lead to Chiavenna and to Coira, and follows its route. The valley is full of towns and includes noted tourist localities such as Castiglione, S.Fedele, and Lanzo, as well as calm and relaxing villages. Points of exceptional beauty are Belvedere (Terrace with a view) di Pigra, towards Lake Como, and Belvedere di Lanzo, towards Lugano’s lake. Very picturesque is the ancient village of the town which, having crossed the Telo torrent, is divided into two parts connected by an old, pointed-arch stone bridge. The town’s Roman origin is testified to by a few discoveries of gravestones, the inscriptions of which refer to the consul Publio Cesio Archigene. Argegno has since ancient times been a fortified centre, its strategic position played a fundamental role in the course of the war between the Rusca and the Vittani, in 1335 it surrendered together with all the towns of Como to the Lordship of Milan and became property of the Visconti. From Argegno you can climb in the cableway to Pigra (881 mt) located on a plateau from which a beautiful panorama of Lake Como can be enjoyed. The Santuario di S. Anna (St. Anna Sanctuary), an 18th century building, which conserves in its interior stuccoes and frescos of the 1700s, is a must-see. Every town of the valley offers us with something from the artisan ability point of view, which often is elevated to a downright work of art. Among its most famous artist families should be mentioned the Carloni of Scaria, the Solari of Verna, the Quaglio and Barberini of Laino, and Bregno of Osteno.
