Abdul Ludbah - 365

Liked how this came out (the picture not the Cappuccino). There are some water droplets on the table but as I didnt see them until I began to process and couldnt be bothered to re-shoot.

No manipulation... not sure how that sun ray ended up looking like it was going through my hand but Im guessing it was a flare from the lens (and others seem to concur).

The Sentinel / El Centinela Listen / Escucha "Sentinel" by/por Mike Oldfield Para mi hermano del alma / For my soul brother Juli Modul (Juli Morató Torres). Fragmento del cuento "El Centinela", Arthur C. Clarke, 1957 "When our world was half its present age, something from the stars swept through the Solar System, left this token of its passage, and went again upon its way. Until we destroyed it, that machine was still fulfilling the purpose of its builders; and as to that purpose, here is my guess. Nearly a hundred thousand million stars are turning in the circle of the Milky Way, and long ago other races on the worlds of other suns must have scaled and passed the heights that we have reached. Think of such civilizations, far back in time against the fading afterglow of Creation, masters of a universe so young that life as yet had come only to a handful of worlds. Theirs would have been a loneliness we cannot imagine, the loneliness of gods looking out across infinity and finding none to share their thoughts. They must have searched the star-clusters as we have searched the planets. Everywhere there would be worlds, but they would be empty or peopled with crawling, mindless things. Such was our own Earth, the smoke of the great volcanoes still staining the skies, when that first ship of the peoples of the dawn came sliding in from the abyss beyond Pluto. It passed the frozen outer worlds, knowing that life could play no part in their destinies. It came to rest among the inner planets, warming themselves around the fire of the Sun and waiting for their stories to begin. Those wanderers must have looked on Earth, circling safely in the narrow zone between fire and ice, and must have guessed that it was the favorite of the Sun’s children. Here, in the distant future, would be intelligence; but there were countless stars before -them still, and they might never come this way again. So they left a sentinel, one of millions they have scattered throughout the Universe, watching over all worlds with the promise of life. It was a beacon that down the ages has been patiently signaling the fact that no one had discovered it. Perhaps you understand now why that crystal pyramid was set upon the Moon instead of on the Earth. Its builders were not concerned with races still struggling up from savagery. They would be interested in our civilization only if we proved our fitness to survive -by crossing space and so escaping from the Earth, our cradle. That is the challenge that all intelligent races must meet, sooner or later. It is a double challenge, for it depends in turn upon the conquest of atomic energy and the last choice between life and death. Once we had passed that crisis, it was only a matter of time before we found the pyramid and forced it open. Now its signals have ceased, and those whose duty it is will be turning their minds upon Earth. Perhaps they wish to help our infant civilization. But they must be very, very old, and the old are often insanely jealous of the young. I can never look now at the Milky Way without wondering from which of those banked clouds of stars the emissaries are coming. If you will pardon so commonplace a simile, we have set off the fire-alarm and have nothing to do but to wait. I do not think we will have to wait for long." Fragment of the short story "The Sentinel", Arthur C. Morning on Haleakala From the top of Haleakala, East Maui volcano. At 10,000 feet, the air is thin, and before dawn it is very cold, too. You are surrounded by an eerie silence disturbed only by the sound of your own breathing. I arrived while it was still dark, along with many others who had come to witness the spectacle. As dawn broke, a fellow next to me proposed marriage to his girlfriend, but I didnt find out about this until afterwards, I was so excited taking pictures. The starburst pattern is caused by diffraction on the lens aperture blades. No filter was used or post-processing was done.

The Bahai Temple at Blue Hour View Large on Black at www.thewindypixel.com! "Sometimes you just get lucky": I’ve mentioned before how the light was relatively poor while I was photographing the Baha’i House of Worship in Wilmette. There was no sunrise and I missed the five seconds of great light by being on the wrong side of the building. Despite these setbacks, I came away with a few great images, predominately because the temple is simply stunning. I was taking a few photographs from whatever vantage points weren’t blocked off by a winter’s worth of deep freeze, trying for something specific. Sometimes when you’re trying really hard to do one thing (get a shot of the white stone temple silhouetted against a pitch black sky) you luck out and get something that is quite the opposite, but better than you could have hoped for. A low cloud ceiling, sodium vapor lights, tungsten white-balance, and a rather nasty bit of lens flare coming off the ridiculous front element of the 14mm all intersected to create some very beautiful colors and shapes in the sky behind the temple. This would be an all-time favorite of mine were the foreground to be more interesting. Perhaps I should drop it to black with a little photoshop magic …. :)

Ir de tapas, Valladolid (Spain) HDR Tapas is the name of a wide variety of appetizers, or snacks, in Spanish cuisine. They may be cold (such as mixed olives and cheese) or warm. In Spain, dinner is usually served between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. (sometimes as late as 12 midnight), leaving significant time between work and dinner. Therefore, Spaniards often go "bar hopping" (Spanish: Ir de tapas) and eat tapas in the time between finishing work and having dinner. Since lunch is usually served between 1 and 3 p.m., another common time for tapas is weekend days around noon as a means of socializing before lunch proper at home (excerpt Wikipedia). HDR from 5 bracketed exposures (0,7EV steps), handheld. --- ARGEGNO Argegno is one of Lario’s most frequented places, as a place to stay as well as to stop in to visit. Actually from here a road travels the Valle dIntelvi (Intelvi Valley), which connects Lake Como with that of Lugano. Argegno is 20 km. from Como, from which can be reached by travelling the statale (state road) Regina, which takes its name from the ancient Roman via Regia that lead to Chiavenna and to Coira, and follows its route. The valley is full of towns and includes noted tourist localities such as Castiglione, S.Fedele, and Lanzo, as well as calm and relaxing villages. Points of exceptional beauty are Belvedere (Terrace with a view) di Pigra, towards Lake Como, and Belvedere di Lanzo, towards Lugano’s lake. Very picturesque is the ancient village of the town which, having crossed the Telo torrent, is divided into two parts connected by an old, pointed-arch stone bridge. The town’s Roman origin is testified to by a few discoveries of gravestones, the inscriptions of which refer to the consul Publio Cesio Archigene. Argegno has since ancient times been a fortified centre, its strategic position played a fundamental role in the course of the war between the Rusca and the Vittani, in 1335 it surrendered together with all the towns of Como to the Lordship of Milan and became property of the Visconti. From Argegno you can climb in the cableway to Pigra (881 mt) located on a plateau from which a beautiful panorama of Lake Como can be enjoyed. The Santuario di S. Anna (St. Anna Sanctuary), an 18th century building, which conserves in its interior stuccoes and frescos of the 1700s, is a must-see. Every town of the valley offers us with something from the artisan ability point of view, which often is elevated to a downright work of art. Among its most famous artist families should be mentioned the Carloni of Scaria, the Solari of Verna, the Quaglio and Barberini of Laino, and Bregno of Osteno. It goes onward from there, with everything from girls covered in pink frills to goth men wearing gas masks. In fact, in that little video I made, you can see a pair of legs/shoes in differing colors that I shot in Harajuku. This guy below was with a group of extreme rockers that were parading around the streets. They all seemed to love having their photo taken... which was cool. I could have gone to that place every day to take photos... Ive got some other crazy ones in the hopper too for the future! from the blog www.stuckincustoms.com

Arashiyama: Sakura & Togetsu-kyo The Togetsu-kyo, or Moon-Crossing Bridge, is a famous bridge in the scenic Arashiyama area of Western Kyoto. In the spring, one can see a beautiful array of sakura along the banks of the Katsura River on the left, or above the bridge in the mountains along the Hozu-gawa. The bridge and banks of the river become very crowded this time of year as it is a popular place for hanami festivities.

bad luck People and Life © Kalandrakas | www.jessleecuizon.com Omikuji Omikuji (御御籤, 御神籤, or おみくじ) are random fortunes written on strips of paper at Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples in Japan. The omikuji predicts the persons chances of his or her hopes coming true, of finding a good match, or generally matters of health, fortune, life, etc. When the prediction is bad, it is a custom to fold up the strip of paper and attach it to a pine tree in the temple grounds. A purported reason for this custom is a pun on the word for pine tree (松 matsu) and the verb to wait (待つ matsu), the idea being that the bad luck will wait by the tree rather than attach itself to the bearer. In the event of the fortune being good, the bearer should keep it. Though nowadays, this custom seems more of a childrens amusement, omikuji are available at most shrines, and remain one of the traditional activities related to shrine-going, if lesser. Read more here. ... I tried it, and I got a bad luck. See note where I placed it.

Ready for Yokozuna And up and down. Move your feet to the beat! I went for a Sumo tournament some time ago. It was interesting and boring at the same time :) To get one of the highly anticipated tickets I had to get up at 5 am catching the last tickets at 6 am in Asakusa, Tokyo. The Finals were at 6 pm, so 12 hours of constant fighting. Beginning with the bad Sumos until then the Mongolian Yokozunas (two, one for the east and one for the West) finished the tournament. The funny thing was that in the beginning it was allowed to take pictures just from the side where you could see everything and practice shooting with bad light. The ritual until fighting for approximately 20 seconds takes about 5 minutes. Here the Sumo prepares for the fight. Collecting all energy he can get out of his body putting it in that one moment when he tries to beat the master. Flickr Hive Mind - flexplore - DNA

A Temple Bar Experience in Kyoto – Japan The courtyard with a spectacular view from the bar inside. Here I drank one of the best premium cold sake ever. Its like in a dream with great soothing music and a solitude atmosphere to relax while you drink. PP: Not a HDR. Long exposure with light contrast & sharpening.

Leon hot air balloon festival 2010, Wikimedia commons picture of the day (3/9/11)

The Bamboo Forest Trail If your interested on how I made this HDR image. Check my link below arcreyes.blogspot.com/2010/12/hdr-workflow.html This short trail inside the Bamboo Forest of Kyoto is abosuletly magical. It is like you are on a different planet. I waited for a clear shot of the path when there are no people passing by. It is impossible during autumn season. This was the best I can do. I think I could wait there the whole day and I would sill have people in my pictures.
